A Shiny New Pair of Affordable Discoveries
Iridesse is a small, family-run winery in Northern California whose mission statement is to make special wines with out-of-the-ordinary varietals. The amount of care taken to craft each remarkably-priced wine is truly admirable. Production is astonishingly minuscule: only 20 to 250 cases are made of each of their wines. Wally’s is fortunate to have two of these rare beauties available. The 2001 Iridesse Anam Cara Napa Valley Red is a blend of Mt. Veeder Sangiovese, and Zinfandel from 110-year old vines in Calistoga, along with a dash of Calistoga Cabernet Sauvignon. This blend was then treated to a FIVE YEAR rest in neutral oak, followed by nearly TWO YEARS of bottle age! You want smooth, delicious and affordable? Trust us: this is one your guests will be jealous that you discovered first! One of the more remarkable red wine values we’ve ever come across. The 2005 Iridesse Albarino provides a change-of-pace for spring and summer. Swap this bracing, crisp Spanish varietal out with the usual Sauvignon Blanc, and watch how quickly the topic changes to the wine. A 17-month cold sur lie fermentation in stainless steel has captured all the nuance a fine Albarino is capable of. Buy cases: you’ll want to keep icy-cold bottles at-the-ready in the fridge all summer long.
