Now Viewing: Rudd Vineyards & Winery
Rudd Vineyards and Winery Some of the reddest, rockiest soils in California anchor the vines at Rudd's Oakville Estate vineyard, located along the foothills of the Vaca Mountains on the eastern benchland of this world-renowned appellation. The rocks and gravel provide excellent drainage, an important requirement for producing exceptional wine grapes. The modest stone winery sits atop 22,000 square feet of subterranean caves, dug directly into the rocky hillside. Here the grapes are fermented in small, square stainless steel tanks, custom designed for maximum concentration and extraction. Once fermented, the wine is fed via gravity into the caves to be barrel-aged in optimum conditions. Beginning with the 2000 vintage, Rudd is producing red wine from the Oakville vineyard that has been re-planted to the five Bordeaux varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot.
