Now Viewing: Royal Tokaji Wine Company
The Royal Tokaji Wine Company was founded in 1989 by well-known wine author Hugh Johnson and other investors, who were inspired – after the fall of Communism in 1989, to restore and to preserve what they considered a dying art. Royal Tokaji owns 110 hectares of prime vineyards around Mád, a unique combination of 1st and 2nd growths that have always been privately owned, including one of the two great first growths – Mézes Mály. Royal Tokaji crafts its Aszú wines using traditional gönci casks and ages the wines in its 13th –century underground cellars. Richness with high acidity levels is the hallmark of the Royal Tokaji wines. Royal Tokaji was the first private company in 50 years to export Aszú and Aszú Essencia wines abroad.
Royal Tokaji’s portfolio includes dry white Furmint, late harvest Ats Cuvee, 5 and 6 puttonyos aszu blends and single vineyard wines, Aszu Essencia and very limited quantities of Essencia. All these wines have their own characteristics through their indigeneous varietals, their enviable terroir and micro climates, the sought after botrytis and the long aging in 600 year old underground cellars.
The rich and uplifting taste of these wines enables them to be perfectly paired with foie gras, mature dry cheeses and chocolate and fruit desserts.
