Now Viewing: Chateau Fieuzal
Chateau de Fieuzal was included in the 1959 Graves classification, before the creation of the Pessac-Léognan appellation in 1987. It was included for its red wine, but the white also has an excellent reputation. There are 48 hectares of vineyards lying around the chateau, on gravelly-sandy soils. Most are planted with red varieties - predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon and then Merlot, with small quantities of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot - but about a fifth are planted up with equal quantities of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. The average vine age is 30 years. Harvesting is manual with careful selection on a sorting table, followed by temperature controlled fermentation with regular batonnage. Maturation occurs in 50% new barrels, with egg white or bentonite fining.
