Now Viewing: Chateau Gigault
This prestige Cuvée from one of the Blaye’s top producers. I found it rich, with the typical Blaye nose of mineral and slight asphalt note with cassis and dark berry. The wine is medium to full-bodied and an excellent value. The Blaye lies on the Right Bank of the Gironde estuary, opposite Saint-Julien. This is a brilliant wine and yet only a Côtes de Blaye. The wine making is under the control of Stéphane Derenoncourt (of La Mondotte, Canon La Gaffelière fame). It is the best Côtes de Blaye we know and in 2001 they have again succeded in making a block-buster wine. Super ripe black cherries on the nose with a lovely sweet texture. Fills the mouth with layers of soft fruit.
