Now Viewing: Chateau Leoville Barton
It should be noted that there is no actual chateau building of Léoville-Barton. The wines are made at the Langoa chateau, which was built in the 1750's: a single-storied building with the chai lying adjacent around a cobbled courtyard. The vineyards of Léoville-Barton are mixed with those of Chateau Langoa-Barton: 45 hectares for the former and 15 hectares for the latter. They lie on a gravel soil with a clay sub-soil and the vineyard comprises of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc, with a vine-density of around 9,000 per hectare. The wine is fermented in large temperature-controlled wooden vats and remain in barrel for 20 months with in 50% new oak.
