The French CHAMPAGNE House PIPER HEIDSIECK initially established Piper-Sonoma Cellars in 1980 and took over full ownership in 1988. The SPARKLING WINE facility is in the RUSSIAN RIVER AVA between the towns of Windsor and Healdsburg in SONOMA COUNTY. Piper-Sonoma owns only 40 acres of its own, and purchases most of its grapes from growers tied to the winery through long-term contracts.
