Chateau Grand-Pontet includes 14-hectares of vineyard located to the west of the town of Saint Emilion, just 900 metres from the Collegiate Church and 300 metres from the church of Saint-Martin-de-Mazerat. The soil is clay/limestone on a strata of ancient sands, upon which the usual grape varieties are cultivated: 75% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, all with an average vine-age of 35 years. The grapes are fermented in a temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for approximately 4 weeks, after which they are transferred into barrique, 80% new oak, for 12 to 18 months. The average annual production is approximately 4,000 cases, depending on the vintage.
