For Denis Mortet everything starts in the vineyard, where every measure is taken to produce the finest, ripest fruit possible, creating a style of wine which in Denis' words is "a pleasure to drink young or old". This is a man for whom young vines are 25-years-old and who cultivates his village wines just as if they were a Grand Cru; thus all his reds see 100% new oak (François Frères oak at that), which they carry very well. Denis Mortet's immaculate vineyards are the key and his energy in leaving no stone unturned in the pursuit of excellence completes the picture. His 10 hectares encompass 14 different appellations and is a far cry from the days of his father, Charles , who started off with only one hectare. Denis Mortet has continued to expand and his two grands crus, Clos-de-Vougeot and Chambertin, are both on a lease.
