Now Viewing: Chateau Mas Guiot Winery
This small Chateau is located near the town of Saint-Gilles, 15 miles from the Mediterranean Sea and just west of the Rhone River overlooking la Camargues. It is owned and operated by the Cornut family. Sylvia is the oenologist, with Francios and their two sons tending to the vineyards. Francios is meticulous in his viticultural practices and a true believer in sustainable agriculture, using no synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers on any of his vineyards or crops. The rocky soil here is reminiscent of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and the fruit is always picked late, ensuring very deep, profound wines, with amazingly soft tannins. They prune heavily throughout the year to keep yields low, and leaf-pull to ensure true physiological ripeness of the fruit. Typically starting days later than most of their neighbors, they pick by taste, and when the stems, skins and seeds are truly ripe. Their wines are superb examples of great material and winemaking, combining depth, power and balance.
