Now Viewing: Chateau Leoville Poyferre
Before the revolution, the estate, that is now divided into the three "Leoville" chateaux, was one immense domaine belonging to Alexandre de Gasq. After the revolution, Jean de Gasq took control of the largest section of the vineyard, and subsequently gave part of this land as his daughter's dowry when she married the Baron Poyferre. Since the 1920's, it has been owned by the Medoc wine firm of Cuvelier et Fils. A wonderful vineyard site and high proportion of old vines give this chateau much potential. Increasingly richer and more complex, Leoville Poyferre is one of the rising stars in Saint Julien. Varietals: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Size: 120 acres.
