Now Viewing: JJ Prum
No exploration of the winemakers of the Mosel would be complete without mentioning the Prüm estates of JJ and SA Prüm. These were formed in 1911 upon the division of the original Prüm estate. The former, currently controlled by Dr Manfred Prüm, is generally regarded as superior, and in fact is considered by many to be Germany's finest wine producer. The estate's reputation rests on the wines produced from several top vineyard sites, in particular Wehlener Sonnenuhr, others including Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich and Bernkasteler Badstube. These are all classic Mosel vineyards, in prime sites, comprising slate soils and planted entirely with Riesling. The wines themselves are renowned for their longevity, as well as a carbon dioxide-derived spritz and delightful residual sugar.
