Now Viewing: Barbour Vineyards
Jim manages over 600 acres of Napa Valley’s premier vineyards. Understandably, it was with much deliberat-ion that he finally selected four acres around his home to plant his personal vineyards. Situated just south of Saint Helena, the plot of land has gravelly and loamy soils, most appropriate for Cabernet Sauvignon. Jim selected budwood from the Grace Family Vineyards (Clone 7) to graft to his vines in 1992.
We harvest only one to one and a half acres per ton, due to the 4’x6’ spacing of the vines. We maintain a well-balanced vine with little to no irrigations during the year. In its first year, 1997, the vineyard produced ¾ of a ton of fruit, and now steadily produces three and half to four tons. Jim is currently researching other vineyards to purchase or lease so that he can increase the production of Barbour Cabernet.
