Now Viewing: Mer Soleil Vineyard
We planted lemons in our Mer Soleil Vineyard for two reasons. First of all, we love lemons and they grow very well in the area. Second, as farmers, we are used to hedging our bets: if the grapes were damaged—by a September rain, for example—we knew the rain would not affect the lemons or lemon trees. Or a severe frost in December would greatly affect the lemons—knock the fruit off or kill the trees—but it wouldn’t affect the dormant grapevines. We particularly like Meyer lemons, and we put in 400 trees. No one else seemed to have them planted there except at a few homes. The neighbors kept asking us what we were going to do with all those Meyers.
