Now Viewing: Aalto Wines
We plan to have different wines available, depending on harvest quality and quantities. Initially we foresee two: Aalto: This wine is the result of our extremely careful selection of grapes and expert wine making. It is a wine of high quality and will be offered every year, except when we decide that the climate has not allowed for perfect ripening of the grapes. Going by past experience, this could happen once every ten years. Aalto 1999 was bottled in July 2001. We have realeased 45.000 bottles and 750 magnums of this vintage. This wine will be a super-premium wine, made only in years when the quality of the harvest allows for the highest standards. A special and careful selection of the best fruit, from specific vineyards, leading to batch fermentation and individual barriques leads to the name. We expect to be able to offer this wine 6 or 7 vintages each decade. Aalto P.S.: 1999 was bottled in December 2001 and will be released in September 2002. We have made 9.000 bottles and 1.000 magnums of this wine.
The heart of a wine lies in the vineyards that give birth to it. Our experience is that Ribera del Duero has some top quality vineyards, capable of producing remarkable wines. Our aim is to release, as far as possible, the quality that is inherent in the grape varieties in the region by harvesting fruit from those vineyards that, in our opinion, give the best possible results. At the moment we own 32 hectares of prime vineyards in three different sub-regions of Ribera del Duero, two in the province of Valladolid and one in the province of Burgos. These estates have been carefully planted with old clones of Tinto Fino. Tinto Fino is a variant of the great Spanish grape variety Tempranillo that has adapted over centuries to Ribera del Duero, its altitude and prevailing climate. Mariano GarcĂa, with his experience of tending the vineyards of Vega Sicilia for 30 years, has unmatched knowledge of both Tino Fino and Ribera del Duero. He has overseen the planting and training of vines in our vineyards.
