Now Viewing: Chateau Suduiraut
Chateau Suduiraut takes its name from the Suduiraut family, who owned the chateau in the 18th Century. It remained with their descendants until the mid-19th Century, when it was sold to the Guillot family. At about this time it was deemed of Premier Cru quality in the 1855 classification of Sauternes and Barsac. As is the case with many properties in Sauternes, a region which has seen difficult times, the chateau changed hands a number of times, seeing little investment as it did so. It wasn't until its purchase by Léopold Fonquernie in 1940 that the seeds of the quality we see today were sown. There was fresh investment and interest, and significant improvements as a result. Fonquernie was aided by manager Pierre Pascaud. When Fonquernie died his daughters took control, until they sold the family business to AXA Millésimes, the wine subsidiary of the AXA insurance group, in 1992. AXA have been instrumental in the revitalisation of other top Bordeaux properties including Chateau Lynch Bages and Chateau Pichon Baron.Throughout this time Pierre Pascaud stayed on at the chateau, although managing director is now Christian Seely. Pierre was joined at Suduiraut by his son, Alain Pascaud, in 1979. When AXA took over Alain succeeded his father, and subsequently his brother, Fabien Pascaud, also joined the firm in the role of vineyard manager. Working in the cellar is Caroline Gendry.
