Now Viewing: Alto Moncayo Bodegas
This amazing wine is 100% Garnacha from (not a misprint) 125 year old, ungrafted vines that survived the threat of phylloxera. I walked amongst these gnarled vines on my most recent trip to Spain. The Aquilon vineyard is one single plot of the oldest vines on the property around the foothills of the Moncoyo Mountains. The iron-rich red clay soils yield a wine of tremendous power, depth and extraction.
This is an extremely limited production wine that delivers blackberry, mocha, espresso, cassis and cola notes with big tannins and mind-blowing length.
Decant for at least 2 hours prior to consuming or better yet, try it between 2008 and 2016.
