Now Viewing: Jekel Vineyard
Founded by Bill Jekel, vineyard planting began in 1972 and the Jekel Winery was built in 1978. The first vintage release was Jekel 1978 Johannisberg Riesling. Bill Jekel studied all the unique environmental factors that affect the vine and its fruit at a particular location before selecting the lands for his vineyards.

The vineyards are located on the deep gravelly soils deposited eons ago by the Arroyo Seco river, which gives its name to this unique viticultural area. Jekel Vineyards lie within one of California's driest viticultural regions and benefit from an extended growing season made possible by cooling winds from the Monterey bay, abundant ground water for irrigation and well-drained soils. Jekel's modern winemaking facility receives grapes from two main vineyards: the Gravelstone Vineyard and the Sanctuary Estate.
