Dense, sweet raspberry and blackberry flavors overwhelm the palate but possess uncanny freshness and improbable finesse, with no obvious tannins. Seems to get sweeter on the long, gently spicy finish and picks up a deeper espresso quality. At least as impressive as the superb 2004, and perhaps more elegant."

The word malleolus comes from Latin and means majuelo, which is a name for a vineyard in Pesquera de Duero. This wine was made from selected grapes coming from majuelos of between 25 and 75 years old, where the vines are both free-standing bush vines and also trained on wires. The wine stayed in contact with the skins for a period of 28 days and was then aged in Allier French oak barrels until its bottling.
