A Bordeaux from one of the greatest vintages in history from the man behind the otherworldly estates of Petrus, Hosanna, Trotanoy and Napa’s Dominus for how much? Christian Moueix’s regional Bordeaux selections from St. Emilion (Merlot-based) Pomerol (Merlot-based) and Medoc (Cabernet Sauvignon-based) are newcomers to his family of wines and 2005 is the perfect vintage to stock up. Decanter magazine recently named Moueix their Man of the Year for 2008 calling him “one of the most respected winemakers in Bordeaux.” His signature on the label defines the juice inside: all three wines display a structure and layered personality synonymous with a Moueix wine. The St. Emilion is the lithest of the three, making it an ideal accompaniment to a wide-range of cuisine. The Medoc is much firmer but equally food-friendly. In other words, bring the St. Emilion to the picnic and the Medoc to dinner. And the Pomerol, well, where else can you get a Moueix Pomerol without spending at least a grand? All three are special wines worth many times the price. Thank you Mr. Mouiex!
"Has light vanilla and blackberry aromas, with hints of licorice. Medium-bodied, with good fruit. A little austere, but stylish. Needs a year or two to mellow. Best after 2008." Wine Spectator
