Product Information: Here’s your chance to expand your wine-tasting horizons! What is Negrette? Well, it is the principal red grape of the Cotes du Fronton A.O.C. in southwestern France. This variety has been cultivated and produced in the past – with notable success in the 1960s and early 1970s – under the name Pinot St. George. (You ‘old-timers’ out there may recall enjoying some tasty Beringer and Christian Brothers Pinot St. George.) Negrette’s fruit produces a wine of intense black color, and its flavor profile mimicks that of both Syrah and Pinot Noir, with aromas and flavors of bramble fruit and cherry, with spicy, old-vine gaminess. Its relatively low level of tannins provides for a smooth, silky-textured red wine experience. With this wine, Ken is giving us all a chance to soak up a bit of California’s history.
