If you haven't heard of Gramona, here's the short of it: this Spanish Cava producer is one of the best-kept secrets in sparkling wine.
"Gramona ranks as one of Cava's finest producers" according
to Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, producing
outstandingly sharp and complex vintage Bruts vintage
after vintage. The 91 point 2006 Reserva Brut is
an outstanding showcase for Cava.
The 2006 Gran Reserva Brut Imperial is predominantly Xarel-lo with 20% Chardonnay. It offers up a slightly more refined bouquet and a crisper, drier, creamier palate than the Brut Gran Cuvee. This surprisingly complex Cava will provide enjoyment over the next 1-2 years. As my visit in January 2011 made clear, Gramona ranks as one of Cava's finest producers.
