Product Information: Winemaker's notes - This wine is sitting in a courtyard in Montalcino. It has delicate flavors of dried herbs, dried cherries and cassis. Gran Premio is 100% Three Creek Vineyard estate Sangiovese; a merger of two clones (Rodino & Clone 02) planted on the south faces of the vineyard in the Happy Canyon region of Santa Ynez. We get a classic expression of old world Sangiovese akin to remembrances of Tuscan dry red wines as they used to be. 2006 was an exceptional year in Happy Canyon (for quality, not quantity) as the grapes matured evenly and we were able to pick perfectly balanced fruit over many days. Many picks and using “barrique” open top fermentors gave us a variety of lots to use in the blend. The result is a wine with remarkable complexity, persistence, and length. | ||||
