The 2007 Barolo is a hugely promising entry-level wine graced with fabulous inner perfume and tons of vintage character. The fruit is wonderfully open and expressive at this stage, and there is plenty of the houses trademark richness, but it all comes together in what appears to be an approachable, totally delicious Barolo. Anticipated maturity 2012-2020. I was quite taken with the 2007s I tasted from Giampaolo Pira. The vintage seems to be particularly well-suited to a house style that seeks textural richness and opulence. At the time of my tastings, all of Piras 2007s had yet to be bottled.
