Product Information: Winemaker's notes - Block Six was the first section of our Purisima Mountain Vineyard to be farmed biodynamically, a process that began in 2002. It is also the highest elevation block in the vineyard, and features soils with significant deposits of chalky limestone. These factors contribute to a wine that has consistently been our finest Syrah offering. From its head-turning aromas of blackberry, plum, sandalwood, smoke and white flowers to its flavors of plum, blackberry, charred meat, minerals and dark chocolate, this is a complete and complex expression of Syrah with a great tannin structure, and a finish that is long and satisfying. Parker Review: Perhaps the most backward of the Syrahs is the 2008 Syrah Block Six Purisma Mountain Vineyard. Plum, blackberry, currant, soy, and a touch of smoke and meat juices can be coaxed from this wine, which is much more backward, displays slightly more elevated tannins, and is more formidably structured. This wine clearly needs another year or more in the bottle and should evolve easily past a decade. Tanzer Review: Glass-staining purple. Deep, smoky aromas of cassis, blackberry and cola, with notes of tobacco and black tea adding a serious mien. Densely packed and youthful, with sweet dark fruit flavors and a hint of bitter cherry pit. A suggestion of black olive comes up with air and weaves through a long, sappy, gently tannic finish. | ||||
