Ruby-red. Deep, ripe aromas of raspberry, spices and minerals. Wonderfully chewy and voluminous for a wine from this domain; the 12.9% alcohol is barely average in the context of Burgundy '99, but high for a de Montille wine. Nearly confectionery sweetness leavened by superb vinosity. Finishes with thoroughly sweet, suave tannins and a late burst of cherry flavor. A great Cote de Beaune wine, bottled in August of 2001. Like the Mitans and Rugiens, this aged on its lees for 22 months without being racked. -Stephen Tanzer, Vinous
