By now you’ve likely heard all of the buzz about the stellar 2013 vintage in Montalcino. The best vintage since 2010, 2013 has produced a slew of top notch wines that sport a deep, elegant, classic personality that is just textbook Brunello. I’ll cut to the chase on this one and say you will not find a better value in Brunello in 2013 (or any other vintage for that matter) than this outrageous overachiever from Caparzo. With a glowing 95-point review from Wine Spectator and an entry-level price of $40, this is serious Brunello that sells for a song. We’ve secured a large allocation, but I would not be surprised if this is sold out by summer. My advice: buy it by the case for your cellar while you can and look out for it near the top of Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of the Year this Winter. This is exactly the sort of QPR that will be in consideration for Wine of the Year.

This cuts more of a broad swath than its peers, yet remains graceful, evoking strawberry, cherry, tobacco and stony mineral flavors. Long and dense in structure, with a tobacco- and underbrush-tinged finish. Best from 2021 through 2033. -Wine Spectator
