The immense purity of the fruit gives the 2009 tons of elegance and character. At the same time, big, rich, silky tannins form a backbone that allows the wine to show its expressiveness and pedigree. The 2009 is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine. In 2009, the blend is 80% Syrah, 14% Grenache and 6% Roussanne, all destemmed. The wine spent 30 months in French oak. The 2009 Next of Kyn - No. 3 comes across as a mix of the 2007 and 2008, with the sensual richness of the former and the darker profile of the latter. Because of its impeccable balance, the 2009 is hugely rewarding today. Succulent dark cherry, cloves, menthol and licorice add nuance throughout, but above all else, the 2009 is a wine that can be enjoyed with minimum fuss over the next decade or so. -Antonio Galloni, Vinous
