Built To Last: Wines That Have Endured The Test Of Time

Share

Wine is history, geography, and emotion in a bottle. It is alive. Just like human beings, some wines improve with age and others do not. The wines that are built to age evolve and prosper to become even greater. When collecting age-worthy wines, the true secret to success is to cultivate the classics - the bottles that have proven themselves to endure the test of time. The best part is, when you choose these special wines you won’t regret it.

We are proud to present this collection of classics. From 1945 Chateau La Mission Haut Brion and 1961 Chateau Palmer (both scoring 100 points) to 1949 Domaine Leroy Musigny and 1999 Screaming Eagle, these wines will allow you the opportunity to slow down and celebrate history.

Due to limited quantities, the wines will be available on a first come, first served basis through online ordering below. For inquiries or to place an order you may also contact rarewine@wallywine.com or (310) 475-0606 ext. 167.

1961 Chateau Palmer 750ml

Wally's Price: $4000

6 bottles available

Across the board, it is agreed that the 1961 Chateau Palmer is one of the greatest wines ever made. Beautifully balanced and complex, with notes of dark, berry fruit, graphite, and violet petals. As Robert Parker said, “The bouquet is difficult to capture in words. Heavenly, ethereal, moving and profound - they are all applicable here.” This 59 year old knockout is still in its prime. With it’s incredible Margaux structure, astounding purity, and a finish that will knock you in your feet, I wouldn’t be surprised if this bottling is supernatural..

As Robert Parker put it, this is a “perfect wine” in every way. At 75 years old the ’45 La Mission Haut Brion proves how an exceptional wine is truly able to age beautifully. It is floral, savory, delicate, and sensual. It is expressive with notes of tobacco, spice, and cedar. Talk about enduring tough times!
