A Celebration of Robert Mondavi Wines!

I began my career in the wine business at a very young age and am frequently called the “youngest of the oldest”. That being said, I have been lucky to meet many of the wine industry’s true icons of the 20th century. One of my all-time wine heroes is Robert “Bob” Mondavi. Meeting Bob for the first time at his winery was a pivotal point in my life.

The year was 1991 and it was a beautiful Spring day in the Napa Valley. Bob was at the front door, his arms were wide open and there was a gold light shining all around him. I was a young kid from LA who he did not know, but he welcomed me into his home like we were already old pals.

We headed straight to the vineyards, walked the dirt, and talked about our dreams and the future of the Napa Valley. We then spent hours in the cellar tasting all his wines going back to the sixties. We finished the evening with an amazing dinner where I met his sons Michael and Tim (who have since become life-long friends and colleagues of mine). At the end of it, all I could say was “WOW!” which in today’s lingo translates to #OHYEAH!

From that day on, not only was Robert Mondavi is more god-like than ever. His wines have stood the test of time for decades and just get better by the day. I could not be more proud to unveil our new Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Flight featuring famed vintages 2015, 1999, 1997. The exclusive by-the-glass flights are available at both Wally’s Santa Monica and Wally’s Beverly Hills for a limited time, with an even more limited retail release of Reserve 2015, 2012, 2011, 2008, 2007, 1999 magnums, 1997 magnums.

Without Mr. Robert Mondavi, his family, and his winery, I would not be where I am today. So Bob, I hope you are looking down on us with pride and smiling that big, beaming grin of yours.

Cheers to health, happiness, and legendary Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

2015 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville

90-93 points, Vinous

Wally's Price: $50.00

I tasted the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville from tank just prior to bottling. Rich, sumptuous and inviting, the 2015 possesses remarkable depth and structure to play off the intense dark fruit. Black cherry, mocha, espresso and new leather add shades of nuance as the wine opens up in the glass. Based on this tasting, it looks like the 2015 is going to need at least a few years in bottle to be at its very best. -Antonio Galloni, Vinous

The profound 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve boasts a saturated ruby/purple color. Production (about 20,000 cases) of this sweet, opulently-textured, rich, full-bodied wine should guarantee widespread availability.
