A striking wine considering it is nearly 50 years old, the 1953 Clos Vougeot is also a touch more compelling than the 1952. The 1953 is a bit more floral, layered and polished throughout. Hints of sweet roses, game, earthiness and cedar are all woven together beautifully in this utterly impeccable, gracious Clos Vougeot. Floral, minty notes reappear on the bright, articulate finish. Stylistically, the 1953 has a little less overt depth than the 1952, but silkier tannins and a more refined personality. -Antonio Galloni, Vinous
